Box Score 2 POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 13, 2014) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team played host to the 2014 Seven Sisters Tournament Saturday afternoon. The Brewers were able to win both of their matches on the day, knocking off both Bryn Mawr College and Smith College in three games.
Vassar 3, Bryn Mawr 0The Brewers used some hot hitting in the first two games, and inched past the Owls in the third frame to earn a 25-22, 25-11 and 25-11 victory in action from the Athletics and Fitness Center. VC connected on 12 kills in the first set, and then swung at a .421 percentage in the second game to take a two-set lead.
In the final set, Vassar led by seven at 21-14 but the Owls won six consecutive points and eventually tied the match at 22. With the score deadlocked at 23, senior
Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) chalked up back-to-back kills to earn the match triumph.
Senior
Taylor Mosley (Rowlett, TX/Parish Episcopal School) had a team-high 11 kills for the Brewers, adding eight digs, while Pitre converted on six of her 11 attacks. Senior
Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) added nine kills and two assisted blocks, while
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) chalked up eight kills and six digs as well for Vassar.
Junior libero
Chloe Hallum (Baltimore, MD/Olympia) finished with a game-high 17 digs for the hosts, while
Sophia Tiajoloff (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) dished out 32 assists and picked up five digs. The Brewers finished with a hitting percentage of .240 (39-16-96), while being very solid in serve receive to the tone of just two errors off the serve.
Vassar 3, Smith 0VC got a very strong performance from Pitre, as she finished with nine kills on 15 attempts in rolling past the Pioneers with scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-13. The Brewers posted 20 kills in the second set, fending off Smith 26-24. In the final set, VC again attacked well, chalking up 12 kills on 26 attempts to earn the victory.
Miller led the team in total kills against Smith, as she added six digs and two blocks. Hallum added another 20 digs to her ledger, and Tiajoloff handed out 32 assists coupled with eight digs. Vassar had 10 service aces on the match, led by the three from sophomore
Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz). Freshman
Paige Lerman (San Rafael, CA/Jewish Comm. Of The Bay) also had six kills and seven digs in the victory.

Vassar College finishes its play in the Seven Sisters Tournament Sunday, taking on Mount Holyoke College and Wellesley College in the final day of action.
