Box Score CANTON, NY (April 19, 2014) – The Vassar College women's lacrosse team managed to outscore Saturday's hosts, St. Lawrence University by one goal in each half to earn the 7-5 Liberty League win during their final bus trip for the regular season.
Sophomore
Isabelle Goldstein (Belmont, MA/Belmont) earned three points at Hall-Leet Stadium with two goals and one assist. She also grabbed a team-high four ground balls and won two draw controls. Senior
Phoebe Tzannes (Lexington, MA/Lexington) also found twine twice for the Brewers (9-4, 4-3 Liberty League) while recovering three ground balls, winning a team-best three draw controls and forcing one turnover.
Carly VanTassel was the Saints' (6-7, 4-3 Liberty League) high-scorer with two goals from four shots. Chloe Knapp was the only St. Lawrence player to get credited with an assist. Hannah Calvelli tied Goldstein for the game-high in ground balls with four of her own. Both Goldstein's and Tzannes' draw controls bested any Saints player.
Junior
Kate Pula (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Sacred Heart) got the win in goal, allowing only five of the 14 shots on goal to slip by while stopping the remaining nine and gathering three ground balls.

Leigh Anne Baldwin (Simsbury, CT/Westminister School) and freshman
Julia Trudell (Newtown, CT/Newtown) both scored once and helped on one goal each. Senior
Malena Harrang (Bellevue, WA/Forest Ridge School) found twine to round out the Brewer scoring on Saturday.
The Brewers put together the first run of the game right out of the gates when Tzannes took matters into her own hands at 29:06. The Brewer defense held the Saints at bay for the next 20 minutes while the offense was able to build the lead to 3-0 after Trudell's goal from Goldstein at 21:47 and Baldwin's solo score at 13:21.
Goldstein scored her first goal of the game with 1:46 left in the first half, giving Vassar the 4-1 lead and giving fans the idea that would be the halftime score. St. Lawrence's VanTassel and Calvelli raced off of the draws to score at 0:23 and 0:01, respectively, closing the gap to just one and sending the two teams into the halftime huddles with the Brewers up 4-3.
VanTassel scored her final goal at 28:59 in the second half that tied the game at four. Harrang responded for the Brewers with her unassisted goal at 24:56 and making it once again, a one goal game, 5-4. The Saints refused to let things stand as Kiera Taussig carried and took a shot at 15:39 to tie the game 5-5.
Tzannes grabbed a pass from Trudell at 7:45 while Goldstein snagged a toss from Baldwin at 5:31, putting the Brewers up 7-5 and ending the hopes of Saints' home victory.
The Brewers barely edged out the Saints in shots 22-21, ground balls 20-17, won draw controls 7-6 and they stood even in caused turnovers 9-9.
The Brewers will next host their two final home games of the regular season on Friday, April 25 at 4:00 pm for Friends of Jaclyn Day and on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 pm for Senior Day. Both games are Liberty League matchups with the University of Rochester arriving for the Friday game and Rochester Institute of Technology arriving on Saturday's game.
