POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 29, 2014) – A 5-1 second half edged national contender, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute past the Vassar College women's lacrosse team 10-8 in just the second Liberty League game of the season for both on Saturday at Weinberg Field.

The Brewers (7-1, 1-1 Liberty League) had a four-goal run at the lower third of the first half with a pair of scores from freshman Julia Trudell (Newtown, CT/Newtown). Junior Dara Davis (Guilford, CT/Guilford) and sophomore Isabelle Goldstein (Belmont, MA/Belmont) also added goals during the spree that gave Vassar the largest lead of the afternoon, 7-4.

The Engineers' (4-3, 2-0 Liberty League) Meg Colitz grabbed a throw from Erin Masucci for the final goal of the first half.

Goldstein scored Vassar's final goal on a man-up opportunity at 23:13 for the 8-5 lead. She finished the day with two goals and one assist. Davis also had three points from two scores and a helper in the first half.

Colitz led the game with a hat-trick and an assist for the Engineers while Davis, Goldstein and Trudell all had two scores.

Both goalies were near even Saturday. RPI's Erin Amarello stopped 10 of the Brewers 18 shots on goal while junior Kate Pula (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) recorded nine saves from 19 shots on target.

Junior Jacqueline Palma (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset Junior-Senior) led both the Brewers and the Engineers with three caused turnovers. The Brewers forced more possession changes than RPI, 9-6 and only turned the ball over 12 times compared to 18.

The Brewers will next travel for five Liberty League games for almost the entire month of April. They will take on the Raptors of Bard College on Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 pm.
