The Brewers never trailed in either show. They put together a 14-4 first half against the Knights and then a 6-2 starting period against the Panthers. Sophomore Kim Mulvehill (Sudbury, MA/Chapel Hill-Chauncey Hill) was Vassar's top scorer for the week. She netted a total of five goals with a hat-trick against Old Westbury.

Sophomore Isabelle Goldstein (Belmont, MA/Belmont) is Vassar's points leader. She has a team second best 11 goals but has almost a third of the Brewers' assists with eight (out of 29). Junior Dara Davis (Guilford, CT/Guilford) is second with 18 points from 15 scores and three helpers. Junior goalie Kate Pula (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) is 2-1 on the season with 19 saves from 69 shots (51 on-goal).

Junior Leigh Anne Baldwin (Simsbury, CT/Westminster School) has the team's second best 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers. She had four recoveries and three forced turnovers against Old Westbury.

A Look At The Colonials
Western Connecticut is on a three game losing streak, falling in all three instances by an opponent total of 18. They first fell to Farmingdale State in the Colonials' home opener 18-12, then to SUNY Geneseo 18-6 and finally to St. Joseph's (Long Island) 18-11. In their most recent showing, the Colonials were led by Hyla Costello's hat-trick from seven shots. Karli Portnoy had 22 saves, having faced 40 shots.

Kelsey Heaton leads the Colonials with 11 goals and two assists for 13 points. Costello's hat-trick moved her into second on the team with nine points and is followed by Kirsten Hudlock, who has eight goals. Portnoy is the only goalie West. Conn. has had this season, as she has recorded a total of 52 saves while allowing only 48 shots to slip by.

Against Western Connecticut All-Time
The Brewers have only lost to the Colonials once in their six-year history. West. Conn. last won on April 11, 2012 at home with a score of 15-13 after taking the game into overtime. The Brewers won last year's meeting 10-9 at Weinberg Field. The largest deficit in the series was the first meeting when Vassar won by 10 goals, 14-4 on April 15, 2008 on the road.

It Helps To Have A Jump Start
The Brewers lead the Liberty League in draw controls. Vassar is averaging 15.6 wins a game for a total of 78. The University of Rochester follows with an average showing of 14 draw controls. Vassar's opponents this season have only won 53.

Down A Player, Up A Goal
The Brewers have capitalized on more man-down opportunities this season than anyone else in the Liberty League. Only three teams in total have scored a man-down but only Vassar has scored twice.

Not Number One But We'll Work With Number Two
Vassar is second in the Liberty League in the standings behind Rochester, but also is the No. 2 placing in seven other categories. Those are goals, assists, points, shots on goal, penalties and man-up goals per game along with shot percentage.

National Recognition
Vassar has four team stats that fall into the national rankings as of March 16 that are in the top 100 in the country. Leading the way was the #6 ranking in draw controls. Also taking honors were the categories of win percentage (#67), scoring offense (#72) and ground balls per game (#84). Davis also was top 100 on the individual side of the national rankings in goals per game (#40) and draw controls (#81).

Up Next
The Brewers have nothing but Liberty League games to look forward to for the rest of the regular season. They will next host Skidmore College on Friday, March 28 at 4:00 pm, followed by RPI on Saturday, March 29 at 3:00 pm.
