POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 19, 2014) – The Vassar College women's lacrosse team had 10 players find twine in its 13-4 win over visiting College at Old Westbury on a rainy Wednesday evening at Weinberg Field.

The Brewers (4-1) earned the win behind the three-goal effort of sophomore Kim Mulvehill (Sudbury, MA/Chapel Hill-Chauncey Hall), the two scores and one assist play of freshman Phoebe Hankins (Belvedere, CA/San Francisco University) and the two helpers and one tally from junior Leigh Anne Baldwin (Simsbury, CT/Westminster School).

"Everyone really contributed in today's win," said head coach Judy Finerghty. "Everyone chipped in on both defense and offense with strong double-teams at midfield and consistent and smart passes."

Three of Vassar's five freshmen tallied goals on Wednesday. Besides Hankin's two scores with one being a free position shot, Sydney Spadinger (Shelton, CT/Shelton) and Julia Trudell (Newtown, CT/Newtown) both fired scorers on the day. Trudell also was credited with an assist.

"All of our freshmen had a solid presence today," said Finerghty. "They had a great showing in this performance."

The Brewers got off to an early 4-0 lead with goals from Hankins, Baldwin, Mulvehill and sophomore Paige Abramowitz (Maplewood, NJ/Millburn). Baldwin had all three of her points in the Brewer run before the Panthers (1-5) responded with a two goal stint of their own.

Courtney Gallagher got her first of two scores at 15:37 for Old Westbury, making it a 4-2 Vassar lead. The Brewers answered with two goals ending the half. One of the net-finders was a man-down goal by Hankins, who now has both of Vassar's season tallies with a player short.

Sara Bey got her first goal of the game at 22:26 in the second half before a Vassar six-goal sprint. Four Brewers had their first goals of the season in the spree including senior Nicole Magney (Chevy Chase, MD/Maret School), junior Jacqueline Palma (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset Junior-Senior), senior Catherine Fiore (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex) and junior Evie Toland (Nyack, NY/Nyack) all got their season-firsts.

Sophomore goalie Mallory Tyler (Hollis, NH/Phillips Academy) got her first win in goal, recording two saves while only allowing two goals. Juniors Kate Pula (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and Hilary McDonnell (Blue Bell, PA/The Springside School) both played 15 minutes of the second half with McDonnell stopping two shots in the final 15 and Pula saving one in the first.

The Brewers will next travel to Danbury, CT on Tuesday, March 25 at 6:30 pm for their last non-league matchup of the season against the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University.
