Brewer Squash Concludes Season With 6-3 Win Over Siena

NORTHAMPTON, MA (February, 16, 2014) -- The Vassar College squash team finished its 2013-14 season Sunday afternoon on a high note, taking a 6-3 victory from Siena College at the Collegite Squash Association (CSA) Championships.

The Brewers got a win from team captain and senior Ricardo Espinosa, who finished his collegiate career with a 3-0 win over Matt Elisio with scores of 11-6, 11-1 and 11-3. Fellow senior captain Kiet Phun also wrapped up his Brewer tenure with a win at No. 2, posting a three-set, 11-8, 11-6 and 11-6 win. Following in his fellow seniors footsteps, Alan Darer won at No. 5 to go out in style, booking a three-game victory, tallying finals of 11-8, 11-6 and 11-3.

Tim Veit played one of the most amazing sets of the season in his four-set victory for the Brewers. After winning the first set 11-9, Veit was forced to gut out a 24-22 set victory to take a 2-0 match lead. After Pete Heffern took a set for Siena, Veit responded with a 12-10 win to earn the contest.

Ben Kurchin finished his first year with Vassar with a victory, winning with scores of 12-10, 11-6 and 12-10, while fellow newcomer Noah Kulick won his match at No. 8 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, and 11-7. Freshman Isabelle Bertram finished her campaign with an exhibition victory at No. 10 with scores of 11-3, 13-11, 9-11 and 11-7.

With the win, the Brewer's finished in third place of the consolation bracket of the event. Vassar concludes its first season as a co-ed squad with a 5-14 record.
