What to Look For:Vassar will look to build off its 79-74 OT road victory vs. Hamilton over weekend, where the Brewers shot 50.9% from the field and hit a season-high 11 three pointers to end a three-game skid. VC can move to .500 on the season with a win on wednesday, as the Brewers enter the matchup 3-4 on the year.
Last Time Out: Senior
Luka Ladan (Belmont, MA/Belmont) scored a career-high 27 points, as Vassar held off Hamilton College 79-74 in a wild overtime clash on December 6. Freshman Tony Caletii (Mill Valley, CA/Branson) also posted a career-best in the game, scoring 18 points with 12 coming in the second half to pace the Brewers. The loss marked Hamilton's first of the year as the Continentals dropped to 7-1.
A Look at the Mountaineers (6-2, 1-0 NECC)Southern Vermont enters Wednesday's game 6-2 on the season and 4-0 at home, as the Mountaineers are currently riding a four-game winning streak. SVC is coming off two victories over Vermont Tech (75-72) and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (80-60) over the weekend at the Tri-State Shootout tournament. The Mountaineers were named tournament champs on Sunday, while junior Deshawn Hamlet was named the MVP.
Hamlet currently leaders Southern Vermont in scoring this season, as the junior forward currently averages 16.6 points with 7.4 rebounds per game. Junior teammate Casey Hall has also been a major contributor for the Mountaineers on both ends of the floor, averaging 11.9 points and 7.5 boards per game in addition to 3.1 blocks per contest. SVC is shooting 43.2% as a team in 2014-15, while averaging 68.8 points and 37.4 total rebounds per game.
D1 Competition: One of Southern Vermont's two losses this season came at the hands of Division I in-state foe University of Vermont on November 19. The Mountaineers fell 86-41 to the Catamounts, who are currently 4-4 this year and 1-0 in the America East conference.
Against Southern Vermont All-Time:Vassar is 2-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, picking up wins in back-to-back seasons in 2007 and 2008. When the teams first met on December 2, 2007 VC earned an 84-57 victory on the road. When the teams last met at the AFC on November 15, 2008, The Brewers edged the Mountaineers 65-62.
Team of the Week Sweep: Luka Ladan and Tony Caletti (Mill Valley, CA/Branson) of the Vassar men's basketball team were named to the Liberty League Team of the Week Monday afternoon after both posted career-best performances against Hamilton on December 6. Leading Brewers: Luka Ladan currently ranks 48
th in the nation and second in the Liberty League in defensive rebounds per game, averaging 6.7 per game through seven contests. Ladan is third in the Liberty League in total boards per game with 8.7.
Junior guard
Erikson Wasyl (Duram, CT/Coginchaug) contributed 12 points for the second straight game against Hamilton, scoring all 12 on four three point shots.
Wasyl is tied for second on the team with 11.8 points per game, and is currently ninth in the conference in steals with 1.6 per game.
Senior forward
Alex Snyder (Rutland, VT/Rutland) had another solid all-around game for the Brewers against Hamilton, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds. Snyder is tied for second on the team in scoring with 11.9 PPG while pulling down 6.9 RPG.
On to the Next One:Vassar will enter an extended hiatus over the next several weeks for the end of the semester and holiday season, before returning to action in January. The Brewers will tip-off the New Year with a Liberty League matchup against Union College in Schenectady, NY on January 2, 2015.
