Box Score vs. NYUPOUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 8, 2014) – The Vassar College women's squash team started their dual match season Saturday afternoon, doing so in resounding fashion in earning wins over Haverford College and New York University in action from Kenyon Hall. VC knocked off Haverford 8-1, before dispatching of NYU 9-0.
Vassar 8, #32 Haverford 1The Brewers were forced to wait due to transportation issues with the Violets of New York University, and thus ended up playing Haverford College first on the afternoon. Despite the delay, Vassar College seemed to be in top form earning seven of the eight matches contested, as well as a default win at No. 9.
Freshman
Hannah Nice (Hanover, NH/Hanover) posted a win at No. 1 singles, as she rolled to a 11-2, 11-2 and 11-4 win over Isabelle Gotuaco. Senior captain
Karina Primelles (Mexico City, Mexico/American School Foundation) also cruised at No. 2, earning an 11-9, 11-9 and 11-7 victory for the Brewers.
Sophomore
Carly Scher (Penn Valley, PA/Herriton) fought off a 1-0 deficit to rally for an 11-13, 12-10, 11-7, 11-4 win at No. 4, while freshman
Cherylann Mucciolo (Shohola, PA/Blair Academy) earned a hard-fought 12-10, 11-7, 11-7 win at No. 5. Senior
Roxanne Ringer (Ridgefield, CT/Home School) kept things going for VC, earning a four-set win over Avery Weisel, and
Ellie Opdahl (Tokyo, Japan/Cate School) upped her seasonal record to 4-0 with a three-set victory over Emilia Cobbs.
The final win of the match for Vassar came at No. 8, as
Steph Zhu (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) knocked off Sabina Aliev 11-6, 12-10 and 11-4. The win on the first match of the year was the eighth straight season-opener won by the Brewers.
Vassar 9, #36 NYU 0VC continued its solid play in the afternoon action, knocking off the Violets with a 9-0 victory. The win over New York University was the second win over NYU ever, as VC defeated NYU in the only other meeting with the two teams back in the season opener of the 2012-13 season.
Scher gave the Brewers an early 1-0 lead in the match, as she earned an 11-1, 11-1, 11-2 win over Joanne Ou. Scher's match started hours before her teammates took on the Violets, as the sophomore had to catch a train out of Poughkeepsie. Once the rest of the squad got underway, no one seemed to miss a beat. VC earned three wins by default, but Primelles but VC up 5-0 and clinched the match with a 11-7, 11-3, 12-10 win at No. 2 singles.
Ringer was next to earn another win, as she picked up an 11-1, 11-5 and 11-6 victory at No. 6. Sophomore
Isabelle Bertram (Salt Lake City, UT/West) powered past Claudia Kronfeld 11-5, 11-5 and 11-7, while Mucciolo looked great with a sound 11-0, 11-1, 11-5 win at No. 5. Nice was the final player to play for VC, as she surrendered just four total points in a 11-2, 11-0, 11-2 win to close the day.

The Brewers are back in action November 22, hosting William Smith College and St. Lawrence University, with the first match starting at 2:15 p.m. in Kenyon Hall.
