Box Score 2 POTSDAM, NY (October 3, 2014) - The Vassar College women's volleyball competed in the first day of a huge Liberty League weekend, splitting a pair of conference matches Friday in action from Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Clarkson University.
The Brewers earned a four-set victory over Skidmore College in the opening match of the night with scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-21. The Brewers fell in three set to reigning Liberty League champions and hosts Clarkson in the finale of the evening in straight sets, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-16.
Vassar 3, Skidmore 1The Brewers (9-9, 3-3 Liberty League) shook off a poor second set to chalk up victories in the third and fourth games to earn a big conference victory over the Thoroughbreds Friday night. In the opening set the Brewers turned an 8-8 game into a 16-9 advantage, winning seven of eight points to open up a large lead, cruising to an early 1-0 lead. In the second set, Skidmore (2-14, 0-1 Liberty League) controlled the middle of the set in knotting the match at a game apiece.
In the third set, Vassar served its way to a 2-1 lead in the match thanks to eight aces in the frame, including three to end the set from junior
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia). The fourth set was the closest of the evening, but Vassar fought off a late rally by Skidmore to earn the match thanks to a 25-21 decision.
The Brewers finished the match hitting .165 on the night, highlighted by a .318 (10-3-22) clip in the third set. Senior
Taylor Mosley (Rowlett, TX/Parish Episcopal School) led the way for Vassar with 16 kills, posting five digs and three aces, while
Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucys Priory) earned 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .333 on the night.

Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) added 11 kills on 27 attacks with just three errors, and sophomore
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) posted eight terminations, four aces and four digs. Freshman setter
Sophia Tiajoloff (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) finished with her second career double-double, going for 41 assists, 14 digs and four aces.
Hallum also had a team-best 16 digs and five aces. On the match, Vassar dominated from the service line, posting 20 aces on the night which was the most since October 9, 2013 against Bard College. VC's 48 kills in a four-setter tonight was the second-most this season, and it was the third-most overall this campaign.
Clarkson 3, Vassar 0The Brewers took on the Liberty League leaders in the standings, battling host Clarkson University in the nightcap but couldn't stay with the Golden Knights, falling in three sets. The Brewers hit a season-low percentage of -.121, and couldn't hold the balanced CU offense in falling to CU for the fifth time in the last two seasons.
Miller led the Brewers with four kills, and Hallum added a team-leading 10 digs. Tiajoloff added 11 helpers for the Brewers, while the team chalked up just 11 kills in the three sets.

The Brewers are back in action Saturday afternoon in two pivotal Liberty League matches at St. Lawrence University, taking on SLU and Union College in Geneva, NY. Vassar tussles with Union at noon, before battling the Saints at 4 p.m. in conference play.
