POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 27, 2013) – The Vassar College women's lacrosse team tied the program record with its 12th victory of the season on Saturday, a 15-6 home win over visiting Liberty League foe Bard on Senior Day at Weinberg Field. With the victory, the Brewers qualify for next weekend's Liberty League tournament for the first time since 2007.
Five different Brewers scored, including senior defender
Elizabeth Annis finding the net twice, as part of a game-opening 6-0 run that put the contest out of reach. Vassar would lead 11-1 at halftime and 14-1 before the Raptors reeled off four unanswered goals and five strikes overall in the final 15 minutes for the final nine-goal margin.
Vassar won its fourth straight game and seventh in its last eight contests to improve to 12-3 on the year and finish the regular season 6-3 in Liberty League play. The 12 victories tie a school record set in 1997 and again in 2007 while the six conference wins mark a new program record.
The Brewers will visit nationally 16th-ranked Liberty League regular season champion RPI at either 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm Friday, May 3 for the semifinals while the championship will be 3:00 pm Saturday, May 4 at RPI. St. Lawrence meets William Smith in the 2-3 seed matchup. Bard's season ends at 6-11 (0-9 Liberty League).
