POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 16, 2013) – Freshman midfielder Isabelle Goldstein scored a career-high seven goals to lift the Vassar College women's lacrosse team to an 18-14 win over visiting Western Connecticut in nonconference action Tuesday evening at Weinberg Field. Her scoring total is the highest by a Brewer in the 2013 season.

Goldstein finished the night with eight points on seven goals and an assist to become the first Vassar player to score seven times in a single game since sophomore attack Dara Davis did it April 6, 2012 at Weinberg Field against Rochester Institute of Technology.

Vassar trailed 3-2 late in the first half when Goldstein got rolling. She took a pass from Davis and beat Colonials goalie Karli Portnoy with 10:45 remaining to tie the score, then scored the go-ahead goal just 47 seconds later. The Brewers would never give up that lead, thanks in large part to Goldstein scoring four goals in the final 5:44 of the first half as part of a 5-0 Vassar run to lead 10-4 at the break.

The win improved the Brewers to 9-3 overall, Vassar's highest win total since 2009, while Western Connecticut fell to 5-7 on the year with the loss. Vassar hosts Liberty League rival William Smith at 4:00 pm Friday; the Colonials travel to Westfield State at 7:00 pm Thursday.

WCSU would make a charge to within three goals in the second half but Vassar let the visitors no closer than that en route to the four-goal victory. Seven different Brewers found the net in the second half with senior midfielder Marissa Reilly scoring twice.

Davis finished with three goals and two assists to support Goldstein's barrage while Reilly and junior defender Phoebe Tzannes recorded two goals and an assist apiece. Sophomore midfielder Katherine Stegmann had a goal and two helpers while senior defender Elizabeth Annis, senior midfielder Michela Garrison and junior midfielder Malena Harrang all scored one goal each.

Tzannes won six draw controls and picked up three ground balls with Davis adding five draws won. Senior defender Lindsay Haggerty and sophomore goalie Katharine Pula tallied four ground balls apiece; Pula made 11 saves on 30 WCSU shots, one off her season high.

Christine Munsell and Emily Brooks each scored three goals to lead Western Connecticut. Lindsay Gorman won six draw controls and was one of four Colonials to score two goals; Kirsten Hudock scored twice and grabbed five ground balls while Portnoy made 11 saves on 37 Vassar shots.
