Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (April 12, 2013) – Sophomore attack Dara Davis and junior defender Phoebe Tzannes combined for nine goals to lead the Vassar College women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 win over host Skidmore in Liberty League action Friday afternoon at Wachenheim Field. The Brewers have now won three in a row.

Vassar scored three times in the first 3:03 to open a lead it would never relinquish as freshman midfielder Isabelle Goldstein, Davis and senior midfielder Marissa Reilly all found the net in the early going. The Thoroughbreds would twice come within one score, but a 5-0 Vassar run late in the first half put the matter out of reach for good. Five different Brewers scored those goals.

With the win, Vassar improved to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in Liberty League action while Skidmore dropped to 1-9 (0-4 Liberty League) and suffered its sixth consecutive defeat. The Brewers visit nationally 19th-ranked conference rival Rensselaer at 2:30 pm tomorrow. Skidmore hosts Liberty League foe Bard at 2:00 pm tomorrow.

Ahead 11-5 at halftime, the Brewers traded goals with their hosts for the first 19 minutes of the second period before turning on the afterburners with five unanswered goals to conclude the contest. Davis scored two of those goals, including a man-down goal following a Vassar red card.

Davis tied her season scoring high by scoring five goals for the second consecutive Liberty League game while Tzannes set a new career high with four goals. She also had an assist for her fifth helper in the team's last six contests. Reilly finished with three goals and two assists, tying her career high in points (five) and handing out multiple assists for the first time since March 16, 2012 at Oneonta State.

Goldstein, senior defender Elizabeth Annis and sophomore midfielder Sophia Rosetti all scored twice each for the Brewers. Davis won five draw controls, Goldstein picked up four ground balls and sophomore goalie Katharine Pula made six saves to lead Vassar in those categories. Fellow sophomore Hilary McDonnell replaced Pula for the final 4:46 and held Skidmore scoreless in that span; she has not allowed a goal in her last 37:31 of game action.

Spencer Morgan had two goals and an assist with Maggie Murphy adding two goals to lead Skidmore. Shelby Witheford made nine saves on 36 Vassar shots.
