NEW PALTZ, NY (March 6, 2013) – The Vassar College men's volleyball team suffered a tough, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-18) loss to No. 7 SUNY New Paltz despite a strong third set in UVC action Wednesday night at the Hawk Center.

Luke Sobieraj. Caldwell had five kills and Sobieraj had six digs in the three sets.
The Brewers drop to 11-7 and 4-4 in UVC play with tonight's loss. They will next return to New Paltz for the UVC Crossover II on Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 pm against Medaille College and will continue on Sunday at 9:00 am against Elmira College and 1:00 pm against D'Youville College. New Paltz rises to 15-4 and 6-2 in the UVC and will next host No. 1 Nazareth College on Saturday at 9:00 am and Penn State Erie – The Behrend College at 1:00 pm. They finish on Sunday when they host Hilbert College at 3:00 pm.
Even with the first set's score of 25-19, the Brewers fought a tough battle, resulting in several ties with the last one being at 15-15. New Paltz pulled away from the Vassar struggle, 23-18 with a series of kills from Tim Ferriter.
The second set's momentum was apparent in the first seven serves when the Hawks jumped out to a 6-1 lead which advanced to a 9-3 lead after a series of blocks, shutting down the Brewer attack.
Ferriter had a game-high, 11 kills for New Paltz.
