WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 12, 2013) – The Vassar College women's lacrosse team got their 2013 season started with a bang as they broke open nine first half goals and added another six in the second for a 15-2 season-opening win against Fitchburg State, starting their Spring Break.
It took just under two minutes for junior midfielder
Malena Harrang to put the first tally on the scoreboard for Vassar. Senior midfielder
Marissa Reilly tacked on the next goal 1:02 later off a free position shot. Reilly would go on to add two more goals for her first hat trick since April 4 against New Paltz last season.
The Brewers (1-0) will next face Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, March 15 at 11:00 am, wrapping up their Spring Break. Fitchburg (0-1) will next face Curry College on Thursday, March 14 at 6:00 pm.
Freshman midfielder
Isabelle Goldstein scored her first collegiate goal during the five-goal spree in the first half. Senior midfielder
Michela Garrison and sophomore midfielder
Sophia Rosetti also found the back of the net in that run.
Fitchburg's Kristin Dooley broke the Vassar stream of goals at 19:54. Junior midfielder
Nicole Magney answered with an unassisted goal off the next face-off at 19:36. Chelsea Roberts scored Fitchburg's final goal with 9:17 remaining in the first half, making the score, 6-2 in favor of the Brewers.
Sophomore attacker
Dara Davis was one goal shy of a hat-trick while Garrison and Rosetti also finished with two goals. Davis picked up two assists in the second half while Goldstein got her first of her college career as well.
