POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 27, 2013) – In a United Volleyball Conference match, the Vassar College men's volleyball team swept Bard College in three sets, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14, Wednesday night at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers got a career high 32 set assists from sophomore

The Brewers have now won four straight matches and improve to 10-5 on the season and 4-3 in the UVC. Bard drops to 5-12 and 0-6. Vassar will now play nine straight matches on the road, beginning on Saturday against Springfield College at 2:00 p.m. and Elms at 7:00 p.m.. The Raptors will next host Ramapo College on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 pm.
The first set was close early with Vassar leading 9-7 and Bard remained close within 16-11 following a Vassar attack error. The Brewers then uncoiled four straight points for a 20-11 lead and with senior David de la Torre getting his first significant play of the season, Vassar closed out the first set 25-13. The sernior contributed to four points while serving.
The second set was the closest of the match, with the Raptors holding an early 5-3 lead. Once Vassar tied the set at 7-7, the Brewers never looked back. Bard did make the set interesting, coming within 21-17 off a Vassar attack error. But Vassar got back-to-back kills from freshman
Kadeem Nibbs to sway the set,. A couple of Bard miscues gave Vassar the set 25-17.
Halberg got his first three kills of the evening during the third set when Vassar and Bard were tied at 4-4. With Nibbs serving, Halberg snapped the tie with a kill, followed by two Bard attack errors and then two more kills from Halberg. Vassar cruised much of the set, giving new players court time. Elijah Mondesir earned Vassar's 22nd point with a kill, and normal libero
Christian La Du got some offense in the match as well. The Brewers won 25-14.
Beside's Halberg's nine kills, Nibbs had a career best six kills and de la Torre had five kills. La Du notched five kills from the front row.
Bard got eight kills from Kai Bernier-Chen.
