Men's Tennis Faces Three Nationally Ranked Teams This Weekend

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 15, 2013) - The Vassar College men's tennis team will face three nationally ranked opponents this weekend at the Mary Washington Tournament on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17.

When: Saturday, February 16 at 9:00 am (University of Mary Washington) and at 3:00 pm (North Carolina Wesleyan College) - Sunday, February 17 at 9:00 am (Case Western Reserve University)

Where: Fredericksburg, VA - University Indoor Tennis Center

Vassar Notes: The Brewers (3-1) suffered a 7-0 loss to Division I, Patriot League powerhouse, Army on Sunday, February 10 at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Despite the outcome being a loss, Vassar got good punches in on the experienced Black Knight squad. Senior Nick Jasso and freshman Daniel Cooper fought a solid doubles match against Peter Sienko and Henry Jang-Milsten at the No. 2 spot where the pair fell, 8-6. Senior Andrew Guzick loss to Asika Isoh, 6-4, 6-1 and Cooper fell to Rashad Shelton 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots respectivefully.

Vassar Next Match: Vassar will next next host Liberty League opponent Skidmore College on Saturday, February 23.

Mary Washington Notes: The Eagles (1-1) defeated Bridgewater College, 6-3, in the team's spring opener on Sunday, February 10. Mary Washington won two doubles and four singles matches. No. 1 spot Alex Blakhin defeated Bridgewater's Peter Hawkins 1-6, 6-4, (10-6), leading the Hawks.

Mary Washington is ranked #21 in the nation and sixth in the Atlantic South Region. They later fell to Division I George Mason University on Sunday, 7-0.

Mary Washington Next Match: The Eagles will next host Salisbury University at 11:00 am and Franklin & Marshall College at 3:30 pm on Sunday, February 24.
