Men's Basketball Closes Out Season At Skidmore & Union

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 14, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team will head into their final two games of the 2012-13 season on Friday and Saturday. The Brewers face off with Liberty League No. 5 Skidmore College on Friday and No. 2 Union on Saturday.

When: Friday, February 15 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 pm

Vassar Notes: The Brewers (7-16, 3-11) fell to Rochester Institute of Technology, 63-60 on Saturday, February 9 during Senior Day. Sophomore forward Alex Snyder tied both his career highs in points (19) and rebounds (17) for his ninth double-double of the season. The game came down to a near-half-court three pointer from sophomore guard Curtis Smith. Smith was unfortunately called for traveling with .06 remaining.

The Brewer offense is averaging 63.6 points per game while the defense has only allowed 66.5 points per game. Junior forward John Donnelly leads the Brewers averaging 11.3 points per game and also grabs 5.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Alex Snyder averages 11.2 points per game and a team-high 10.6 rebounds per game.

Skidmore Notes: The Thoroughbreds (14-9, 8-6) fell to Clarkson University, 69-63 on Tuesday, February 12. Aldin Medunjanin made a layup with ten seconds remaining, bringing Skidmore within two points, 65-63. Clarkson hit a pair of free throws from Marques Charlton and Felix Abongo, putting the game away. The loss put Skidmore in a tie for fourth place with Clarkson in the Liberty League standings.

Skidmore's offense is averaging 69.2 points per game while its defense is keeping opponents' scoring down to 65.4 points per game. Mendunjanin leads the scoring effort with a 14.8 points per game average followed by Tanner Brooks (14.2) and Connor Merrill (13.5). Mendunjanin pulls down the most rebounds per game (5.6) followed by Merrill (5.3).

Skidmore Next Game: After tomorrow's game, Skidmore will travel to Rensselaer on Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 pm.

Union Notes: The Dutchmen (19-4, 11-3) defeated St. Lawrence, 80-73, on Saturday, February 9. Junior Keith Callies scored 22 points to lead the Dutchmen. He was two points shy of his career high as he led two other Union players in double figures. Union will face RPI on Friday at 8:00 pm before their final game of the season. Union secured a playoff spot with the win over St. Lawrence and if the Dutchmen hold onto their No. 2 spot, they will host at least one game of the Liberty League Championships on February 20.

Union's offense is averaging 75.3 points per game while its defense is allowing only 64.9 points per game. Kevin Donohue is leading the Dutchmen with an impressive 19.2 points per game average and an 8.0 rebounds per game average. Joe Mason follows in scoring with 15.2 points per game and Terell Winney averages 11.1 points per game.

Union Next Game: After Saturday's game, Union will look to host the first round of the Liberty League Championships.
