Box Score                 POTSDAM, NY (November 8, 2013) – No. 24 Clarkson University got 18 kills from Xiao Liang in knocking off the Vassar College women's volleyball squad 3-0 in the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament, held in CU's Alumni Gymnasium Friday evening. CU won with scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 23-17.
 
                The Brewers finish their season 18-18, as they could not get passed the Golden Knights (32-6) in the semifinals for the second consecutive season. Vassar did battle in the first set, leading by three on three occasions midway through the set. With the score tied at 19, top-seeded Clarkson chalked up three straight points before Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) ended the streak with a kill. The hosts though would go on to earn the 1-0 match edge.
 
                The second set saw Clarkson jump out early, leading by as much as four at 10-6. Vassar trimmed the lead to 11-9, but CU would notch eight of the next nine points to pull away in game two. In the final set, VC fell behind by seven at 16-9, but rallied with five straight points thanks to the serving of Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz).
 
                Clarkson would respond with seven straight tallies to pull away, sending CU into the Liberty League Championship game Saturday against Union College, which knocked off third-seed St. Lawrence University in the first semifinal of the day.
 
                The Brewers were led by the seven kills and three assisted blocks by Cardillo, while Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) had a game-high 16 digs for the Brewers. Freshman Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) finished her first year at VC with five kills and seven digs, and Taylor Mosley (Dallas, TX/Parish Episcopal School) added six kills, six digs and three assisted blocks.
 
                Senior Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) finished her Vassar career with 22 helpers and five digs, while Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucys Priorys) added five kills and two assisted blocks. The Brewers posted 23 kills on the evening, but suffered errors on 21 of their 91 swings for a .021 hitting percentage.
 
                Liang posted a huge game, collecting her 18 kills on just 24 attempts. Aishvina Arasu and Victoria Kirkemo each had nine kills, Erika Chin had 14 digs and Lani Durio finished with 36 assists.
 
                Despite the loss, VC registered its fifth straight season with at least 17 wins. The year was also the eighth in the last nine with a .500 record or better. The Brewers will return seven letter winners in 2014, as Pitre, Mosley and Cardillo all return for their senior seasons.
 
                Vassar does say goodbye to five seniors, as Carman, Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca), Megan Andersen (Santa Monica, CA/The Archer School), Aoife Feighery (Westborough, MA/Westborough) and Lydia Bolton (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) helped the Brewers win 73 matches over the last four years.
