POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (August 31, 2012) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team began its 2012 season with sweeps over Montclair State (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) and Lyndon State (VT.) College (25-7, 25-10, 25-4) in a tri-match at Kenyon Hall on Friday afternoon.
The  Brewers got strong seven kill performances by junior hitter 
Jessie Ditmore and sophomore hitter Taylor Mosely in the opener against Montclair State. In the nightcap against Lyndon State, sophomore hitter 
Clara Cardillo had a career best seven kills with no attack errors in the victory.
The Brewers (2-0) will next host the College of Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Against Montclair, Vassar won the first set convincingly, leading by double figures. The second set was tighter, tied at 12-12 and 18-18 before the Brewers reeled off seven on the next nine points, getting a pair of kills from Ditmore along the way. The third and final set was the most competitive, with the Red Hawks able to tie the set 14-14 and 16-16 before the Brewers pulled ahead on the strength of seven straight points when junior 
Rose Carman was serving.
Senior 
Hilary Koenigs had 23 set assists. In her debut, freshman 
Chloe Hallum had nine digs from her libero position.
Montclair State got a match high eight kills from junior hitter Maria Toper and 14 assists from sophomore setter Angela Campo.
Against Lyndon State Cardillo led the way with a perfect attack match, making no errors with her seven kills. Senior hitter 
Brittany Stopa had six kills and hit .750 (6-0-8). Sophomore 
Marie Pitre had four kills and hit .667. As a team, Vassar hit .412.
Carman had 16 set assists, setting a new career best. Junior libero 
Aoife Feighery had four of Vassar's 14 digs.
