ROCHESTER, NY (March 10, 2012) - Men's volleyball - ranked #10 in the most recent national poll - began a crucial United Volleyball Conference (UVC) tournament weekend with a decisive 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 26-24) victory over Hilbert College. Hosted by Nazareth College, it is the second and final UVC crossover where Vassar seeks to bolster its now 3-4 conference record, hoping to solidify its spot in the playoff picture.
Weekend play continues for the Brewers tomorrow when they face D'Youville at 2:15 PM and Penn State Behrend at 3:45 PM. Complete results and updates for the weekend can be found on the

Vassar led in almost all statistical categories, and the match featured the entire 14 player roster seeing time on the court.

Danny Fishman shared the setting duties, combining for 39 assists and orchestrating a .270 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker
Matt Elgin once again paced the Brewer attack with 10 kills, his eighth double-digit effort of the season. He was closely followed by freshman outside hitter
Colin Fearn-Johnson who had nine kills and hit an impressive .429 on14 swings. The Vassar defense allowed no Hilbert hitter double figures in kills, Frederick Sickau leading with eight, and held the Hawks to a .067 hitting percentage. The defensive effort was led by a match-high and career best 10 digs from freshman
Colin White-Dzuro, with four players notching two or more blocks. The Brewers also served up eight aces on the day, three coming from freshman
Owen Brady.
