CAMBRIDGE, MA (February 24, 2012) – With the match tied at 4-4, senior captain Meg Taylor delivered a win in the deciding match to lift the Vassar College women's squash team to a 5-4 victory over the College Squash Association No. 30 Georgetown University in the first round of the CSA Team Championships Epps Cup (D Division) on Friday at Harvard University's Murr Center.

The No. 27 ranked Brewers (5-13) face the No. 26 Smith College on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

With the match even at 3-3 and positions No. 1, No. 4, and No. 7 left to play, freshman Alexandra Bowditch rose to the occasion with a huge 12-10, 11-5, 11-4 win over Julia Caffrey at the No. 4 position to put Vassar ahead 4-3.

The match was headed for a tie as Georgetown's Lucy Gibson took a 2-1 lead over Vassar's Sanam Khanna at the No. 7 position. Vassar had insurance as Taylor grinded for a 12-10 win in the first game against Carolyn Meister at the No. 1 position.

Taylor took a 2-0 lead at No. 1 just as Khanna captured the fourth game 11-6 to send the No. 7 match to the fifth set.

“Anything was possible at this point in the match and both teams bit into their fingernails as the matches wore on,” said head coach Jane Parker.

Khanna fell in the fifth set to Gibson 11-9,9-11,11-5,6-11,11-7 and Georgetown evened the score momentarily until Taylor polished off Meister in straights 12-10,11-5,11-4 to clinch the 5-4 Vassar win.
