POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 15, 2012) – The Brewers trailed only once in the match while cruising to a 3-0 win 25-19, 25-12, 25-14 over United Volleyball Conference opponent SUNY-IT. Vassar was dominant at the net, totaling 38 kills to the visitors' 18, and outblocking them 8-1.

SUNY IT falls to 1-9 overall, 0-5 in conference and will host SUNY New Paltz on February 22nd. The Brewers travel to NYU on February 22nd, hoping for a repeat performance of the 3-0 victory vs the Violets at home on January 25th. Vassar is now 4-4 with a 2-3 mark in the UVC.

In the first set, with Charlie Caldwell serving, Vassar jumped out to an 11-0 lead before SUNY IT could get on the board with the help of a Brewer service error. The visitors did not lie down, however, and after settling in and with a series of Vassar miscues, the Wildcats went on an eight point run to cut the lead to two at 13-11. After a side-out put Vassar back up by three, the host re-established control, forcing a Wildcat time-out at 18-13. The Brewers would lead by as many as nine before closing out the set on a Matt Elgin kill, 25-19. Elgin led all players in the set with four kills.

It was much the same to start the second, with the Brewers again taking early leads of 9-2 and 16-5. Vassar, conscious of their mid-set lull in the first set, retained control throughout, and SUNY IT would never get closer than nine down the stretch until Vassar put the finish to the set 25-12. The Brewer middle attack set the offensive tempo with Elgin and Patrick Donohue accounting for half of Vassar's 16 kills in the set, leading a .583 hitting percentage.

The third set would see the visitor's first lead of the match, going up 4-3 on a sluggish Vassar start. It would not hold up for long, however, as the Brewers beat the Wildcats to ten at 10-7. Vassar's dominance at the net began to show from that point on, with a series of blocks and continued success out of the middle got the Brewers a nine point lead at 20-11. Five of the last eight points would go to Vassar, with freshman Colin Fearn-Johnson putting away two kills late.

Elgin and Donohue would pace the Brewers with nine kills each, with sophomore Joe Pyne adding seven. Senior Cliff Quinn orchestrated the offense with 32 assists, while junior Libero Christian La Du tallied a match-high seven digs. Ryan Meller and Justus Stahrr each had five kills for the Wildcats.
