Men's Tennis Starts Spring With 9-0 Sweeps of Farmingdale and Baruch

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 11, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team opened the spring dual match season with a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Farmingdale State and Baruch College on Saturday at Walker Field House.

“We had two matches our first day out and the team did a really good job of staying focused and competitive through eight hours of non-stop tennis,” said head coach John Cox.

The Brewers (3-0) face the United States Military Academy at West Point on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Against NCAA-qualifier Farmingdale, Vassar jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles with wins by the ITA No. 6 ranked Ben Guzick and Andrew Guzick over Christian Bormann and Steven Ferrantello 8-3 at the No. 1 position, Dan Freeman and Kartik Kapoor over Joseph Falcetta and Zach Cooper 8-2, and Nick Jasso and Wilson Platt over Alex Bessarabov and Ryan Musalo 8-0.

Jasso did not drop a game in the match, completing the total bagel with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Falcetta at No. 4 singles. Freeman clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bessarabov.

Against Baruch, Vassar began with a sweep of doubles and did not drop a set in singles. Vassar prevailed in a pair of second-set tiebreakers as Ben Guzick knocked off Christopher Jenkins 6-0, 7-66 at No. 2 singles and Freeman topped Guy Goren 7-5, 7-60.
