The third set was critical and perhaps the key turning point of the match as the Hawks fought off three set points at 26-25, 27-26 and 28-27. New Paltz won the last three points by capitalizing on a Vassar service error and two straight kills for a 30-28 win. Without that comeback, Vassar would have held a 2-1 match lead heading into the fourth set, the best played of the five for the Brewers.
After dropping the third set, Vassar responded in the fourth set with a rousing effort in a 25-15 win. The Brewers held a narrow 14-13 lead, but went on a strong run, capitalizing on seven Hawks miscues and opportune kills from sophomore
Taylor Mosley and junior
Jessie Ditmore to force a fifth set.
Vassar was able to tie the match at 1-1 with clutch serving from junior Megan Anderson. The Brewers were down 24-23 and facing a 2-0 deficit. Senior
Chloe McGuire had a huge kill for a 24-24 tie. Anderson then served an ace for a 25-24 lead and her subsequent serve resulted in a New Paltz misue and a 26-24 Vassar win.
The first set was tied eight times, the key juncture coming when Vassar fought back to tie the set 20-20 following a kill from sophomore
Clara Cardillo. Subsequent ties came at 21-21, 22-22 and 23-23. The Hawks won the set on a Vassar attack error and a kill from Dana Vosilla.
Ditmore led Vassar with 18 kills. Mosley and McGuire had 15 and 13 respectively. Senior setter
Hilary Koenigs added to her legacy with 50 set assists and 19 digs, one shy of her career best. Freshman
