POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 28, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day with several strong performances but came out empty-handed in a loss to a deep New York University team on Saturday at Kresge Pool.
“We're looking stronger and stronger every day and these times are showing it,” said assistant coach Dan Decker. “We were happy overall that we are continuing to get stronger as we finish out the season.”
The Brewers drop to 2-5 with today's 189-95 loss and host the Sprint Invitational on Saturday, February 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Kresge Pool. Vassar honored seniors
Max Bernard,
Ian Madison,
Jack Smart and
Greg Sullivan on the men's side and Amelia Couture, Felicia Hansell, Christie Musket, and Caroline Shannon on the women's side. The eight seniors sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” a capella.
“It was a highlight to see the seniors singing the national anthem after four years together,” said head coach
Lisl Prater-Lee. “They're multi-talented people and it's a strong reminder of what Vassar is about.”
In the men's 1-meter diving event,
Greg Sullivan broke his own school record with a score of 318.90 on six dives for second place. He won the 3-meter event with a score of 311.86.
Also in the 1-meter dive, Rafael Ricuarte and
Rory Moon had personal bests of 145.73 and 132.3 for fifth and sixth place respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Luc Amodio was third in 1:55.85 and Bernard posted a lifetime best in 1:57.89 for fifth place.
Nick Veazie took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.43.
Smart was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.92 followed by
Matt Weiss in third in 1:02.43 and
Chuck Hermann in fifth in 1:08.60.
Mathue Duhaney won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.56.
