POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 2, 2011) – The Vassar College women's lacrosse team kept itself in close contact to Skidmore College, down just 3-2 in the first ten minutes of play, but the Thoroughbreds went on the offensive, going on a 7-2 goal scoring run to close out the half, and defeated the Brewers 17-8 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Weinberg Field.

Skidmore used a balanced scoring attack, with six different players tallying goals, to keep the Brewers from making a dent in a Thoroughbred lead that never dipped below six goals in the second half.
The loss drops Vassar to 3-4, 0-2, while Skidmore improves to 5-2, 1-1. Vassar returns to action on April 6 with an away contest against SUNY New Paltz at 4:00 p.m. Skidmore next faces Clarkson in Liberty League play on April 8 at 4:00 p.m.

The game was tied only once at 1-1, when Vassar senior attack Sarah Warner notched her 20th goal of the season. The Brewers were within 3-2 following a goal by senior midfielder Emily Kloppenburg with 20:25 to play, but the Thoroughbreds went on an offensive tear, scoring seven of the games next eight goals – for a 10-3 lead – two of which came from freshman midfielder Robin Fetterolf, and the other tallies from six different players.

Despite out-shooting Skidmore 34-23, the Brewers couldn't make a dent in the lead. The Thoroughbreds scored seven times in the second half, two goals coming from senior attack Lindsay Stavola.

Vassar senior midfielder Allie Morgan notched her second straight three goal game, and scored two of her goals in the second half. Her second goal, at 17:19, brought the Brewers within 13-7 and her third tally with 10:53 to play made it 14-8, but Skidmore scored the game's final three goals for the 17-8 victory.

Skidmore senior midfielder Lauren McCarthy was the game's high scorer, notching four goals in the contest.

Vassar senior Nicole Englehardt started the game in goal and made three saves. Junior Heather Kesselman allowed four goals and made a save in relief.
Skidmore junior goalie Rachel Klein made 13 saves.
