Nine Players Score Goals As Women's Lacrosse Eases Past Bard 12-2

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 17, 2011) – The Vassar women's lacrosse got goals from nine different players in registering a comfortable 12-2 victory over Bard College on Thursday afternoon at Weinberg Field.

Senior midfielder Allie Morgan had three of Vassar's goals in a contest that saw the Brewers outshoot the Raptors 31-8.

The victory improves the Brewers to 2-2 on the season. Vassar will next travel to SUNY Oneonta on March 25 for a 6:00 p.m. contest. Bard drops to 1-2 and will face Kean this Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Senior Moe Byrne started the scoring for Vassar just three minutes into the contest and the Brewers built a 9-0 halftime lead. Morgan had two of her three goals in the first half.

Bard broke into the scoring column just under two minutes into the second half when junior attack Farah Akhtar tallied a goal from the crease. Freshman midfielder Stephanie LaMont tallied Bard's second goal with two minutes left in the contest.

Vassar held a decisive 37-12 advantage in groundballs, with freshman Zoe Ripecky earned a new career-best six in the game. Freshman Phoebe Tzannes and senior Sarah Warner each had four groundballs for the Brewrers.

Junior goalie Nicole Engelhardt played just under 20 minutes and earned the win. Sophomore Heather Kessleman played the entire second half for the Brewers and made two saves.

Bard senior goalie Hannah Becker made 11 saves for the Raptors.
