Women's Tennis In Sync With 8-1 Win Over Muhlenberg

Match Results

ALLENTOWN, PA (February 26, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team had little trouble adjusting to unfamiliar courts in an 8-1 win over Muhlenberg College on Saturday.

The Brewers (4-1) begin their Spring Break Trip on March 7 with a 3:00 p.m. match against Occidental. The Mules (0-1) host Elizabethtown on Thursday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m.

“Our team played extremely well, especially on their home courts which are exceedingly fast and slick,” said head coach Kathy Campbell.

The Brewers utilized big serves on the fast surface to sweep doubles and win five singles matches in straight sets. “As a team, we had an awesome serving day through the lineup in singles and doubles,” said Campbell. In doubles, Vassar did not surrender a single break.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Natalie Santiago and senior captain Caroline Dunn-Rankin rolled on Emily Szulman and Nina Sanders 8-2. “All three of our doubles pairs played really good defense and transitioned to offense,” said Campbell.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Jennifer Ruther cruised 6-1, 6-1 over Lindsay Schmidt. “In singles, we played within ourselves but stayed aggressive,” said Campbell. “I was really happy with our composure.”

“A week from today we'll be in California and we're really excited for it,” said Campbell. “Everyone feels like their game is continuing to build which is great motivation heading in our five match trip.”
