Brewers Advance To Howe Cup Consolation Finals With 6-3 Win Over Herons

PRINCETON, NJ (February 19, 2011) – The Vassar College women's squash team defeated William Smith 6-3 at the Howe Cup National Championships in the Walker Cup (Division C) Consolation semifinal match Saturday afternoon.

The College Squash Association No. 22 ranked Brewers (6-9) face the winner of Colby and Tufts on Sunday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrenceville School for the No. 21-22 position play-off. The CSA No. 23 ranked Herons (9-7) will play the loser of Colby and Tufts at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Co-captain and No. 5 Nina Punukollu clawed back from a 2-1 deficit to seesaw to an 8-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9 five set win over Courtney Leous.

The top four Brewers captured convincing 3-0 wins to give the team a 4-1 lead. After narrowly losing the first game 11-7, sophomore Jill Levine fought back for a 7-11, 11-9. 11-7, 11-7 triumph at the No. 8 position. Else Ross earn the fifth point for the win.
