Women's Squash Downed In First Round of Howe Cup

Match Results

PRINCETON, NJ (February 18, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's squash team had a tough first round match in the Howe Cup Championships as it fell 8-1 to Wesleyan University. Last weekend Wesleyan won 7-2 without the No. 3 and No. 5 players in the line-up.

Today at full strength, the Cardinals had to battle harder for an 8-1 victory over the Brewers. Returning from a semester in Russia, Vassar's Meg Taylor found her form to tease a series of unforced errors from the Wesleyan No. 3 Grace Zimmerman. Taylor's high-slow strategy worked well on the warm Princeton courts and her persistence paid off with an 11-8, 5-11, 11-3, 11-1 victory.

Vassar will play William Smith on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the first round of consolation.
