POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 5, 2011) – If the Vassar College women's squash team was a bit nervous for its opening matches of the 2011 season, the Brewers shuck off the jitters quickly, defeating Smith 6-3 and Haverford 9-0 in the Guy Fawkes Challenge at the Kenyon Hall Squash Courts.

Head coach Jane Parker said the women were indeed a little nervous at the start against Smith, but still prevailed with a solid team victory. Parker said the Brewers found their momentum against Haverford and the result proved the coach correct.

Vassar starts the season 2-0 and will be back in action at home next Sunday, November 13. The Brewers will host Fordham and Bard starting at Noon.

Playing at the No. 1 spot for the first time in her career, senior captain Meg Taylor shined in her second match against Haverford. “Meg pulled off a confidence boosting victory against Caroline Nightingale,” said Parker. “Always willing to fight to the bitter end, Meg lived by the teams motto 'Never say Never' to claw back for the victory.”
