CLINTON, NY (November 12, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's squash team went 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of William Smith College and a 7-2 win over St. Lawrence University.

“The Brewers took the bull by the horns to take William Smith by a 9-0 margin,” said head coach Jane Parker. “A couple of nervous starts were quickly overcome as the Brewers found their momentum, established good length and hunted down winning shot opportunities.

The Brewers (4-0) next host Amherst College on November 30 at 6:00 p.m.

Senior Meg Taylor posted two wins in the No. 2 position, starting with a 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 win over Olivia Beckwith of William Smith.

Taylor met her match against St. Lawrence's Jenn Hearn as they seesawed 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11 in the first four sets. Taylor held match ball at 10-8 in the deciding set and eventually prevailed 15-13.

“A look at the individual game scores will reveal a closer battle than the match result suggests,” said Parker. “Playing in the No. 2 spot today after a 3-1 challenge match loss to Libby Pei earlier this week, gritty Meg Taylor survived a nail biting 3-2 encounter.”
