POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 9, 2011) – In a physical bout that featured  three yellow cards and 46 fouls, the Vassar College men's soccer team had a 22-8 advantage in shots but tied Skidmore College 0-0 in double overtime Sunday afternoon in Liberty League action at Gordon Field.

In the 110th minute, Vassar had a long throw in and the game's final shot, but neither of those attempts were converted into goals and the game ended in a tie. With 15 seconds remaining, freshman forward Logan Matheny launched a long ball into the box that bounced around until it was cleared away just before the buzzer.

With the draw, Vassar College takes sole possession of third place in the Liberty League with seven points, while Skidmore College remains in seventh place with four points. The Brewers (7-3-2, 2-1-1 Liberty) will travel to Rochester, NY to face Rochester Institute of Technology this Friday, October 14, at 4:00 pm. The Thoroughbreds (5-7-1, 1-3-1 Liberty) play Oneonta State on the road this Wednesday, October 12, at 4:00 pm.

Vassar was aggressive from the outset, and nearly scored in the 9th minute when Matheny headed the ball just high off a sharp cross from sophomore defender Jake Rabin. The Brewers maintained steady pressure throughout the half, and held an 11-3 shot advantage as well as a 5-1 corner kick edge going into the second half.

The Brewers carried their aggressive offense into the second half, and racked up nine shots to Skidmore's five, as well as four corner kicks. However, Skidmore nearly found the game winner in the 90th minute as sophomore forward Gildas Girimana went one-on-one with a Vassar defender and fired a shot to the upper right corner that Vassar keeper Ryan Grimme knocked away to send the game into overtime.

The Brewers nearly broke the stalemate when, with just seven minutes remaining in the second period of overtime, sophomore midfielder Rob Manukyan blasted a left-footed shot just wide of the post from six yards out.

Grimme (4-2-2) made two saves for Vassar, while Skidmore keeper Nick Peterson (5-5-1) made five saves.
