Women's Squash Sweeps Northeastern, Swept By Columbia

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 29, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's squash team split matches as it blanked College Squash Association (CSA) No. 27 Northeastern 9-0 and fell to CSA No. 14 Columbia 9-0 Saturday at Kenyon Hall.

The CSA No. 22 ranked Brewers (3-5) compete in the Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday, February 5.

Vassar's entire lineup stepped up to pull off the sweep of Northeastern but freshman Willow Thompson was particularly dominant at the No. 4 position in an 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 win over Carly Evans of Northeastern. Classmate Jill Levine rolled for 22 consecutive in an 11-5, 11-0, 11-0 victory over Northeastern's Lisa Novikova at the No. 8 position.

Although Columbia managed a sweep, Vassar's senior No. 1 Kristine Bell played a competitive match and won the second set in an 11-5, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7 loss to Liz Chu. At No. 9, Vassar sophomore Sanam Khanna pushed Columbia's Alex Mouta to four sets in a 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 loss.
