Men's Volleyball Splits Two Matches Against MIT and Endicott

HOBOKEN, NJ (February 6, 2010) -- The Vassar College men's volleyball team rebounded from a 3-1 loss to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to defeat Endicott College, 3-0, in two matches played at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. Vassar defeated Endicott 30-25, 30-26-30-24 and lost to MIT 30-28, 28-30, 22-30, 19-30

The Brewers, now 5-3 on the season, will next head to Russell Sage College on Wednesday, February 10 for their first-ever meeting against the Gators, a new member of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division.

Against Endicott, the Brewers put together a strong attack performance, especially in the second and third sets where Vassar hit .457 and .516, en route to the victory. The trio of junior Evan Fredericksen, senior Phil Tully and freshman Matthew Elgin had 17, 16 and 10 kills to pace the Brewers. Freshman John Konow had 46 set assists and Tully led the way with nine digs, followed by eight from freshman Christian La Du. Elgin was particularly prolific with his 10 kills coming on 13 attempts without an error, a .769 attack percentage.

After capturing the first set against MIT, the Brewers fell pray to attack errors in losing the three final sets. For the match, Vassar hit only .205, compared to the .412 against Endicott. Tully led the way with 18 kills, followed by Fredericksen with 13 and Elgin with nine. Konow had 38 set assists and sophomore Clifford Quinn had seven. Fredericksen had a season high 13 digs.
