ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (February 24, 2010) – The Vassar men's volleyball team ran its winning streak to six games with a 3-1 (31-29, 30-14, 31-33, 30-20) victory over Bard College on Wednesday evening in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA ) Metro Division match.

La Du Honored By NECVA
On Wednesday, freshman Christian La Du was honored as the Rookie of the Week in the Metro Division of the NECVA. It was La Du's defensive prowess and a career-high 25 digs that enabled Vassar to upset No. 6 Philadelphia Biblical, 3-1, in the opening match of the VC Invitational last Friday night. He was equally impressive in the 3-0 championship match against Nazareth. His 12 digs helped the Brewers win 3-0, avenging a 3-1 loss against the Golden Fylers the previous weekend. In five matches last week, La Du had 73 total digs, a 4.56 per set mark and each match he recorded in double figures in digs.

The win raises Vassar's record to 12-6, 4-0 entering into a big Metro Division match against Ramapo College on Saturday, February 27 at Kenyon Hall at 2:00 p.m. The No. 9 nationally ranked Brewers in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, will face a Ramapo team that brings in a 12-4, 4-0 record into the contest, but dropped from No. 12 to No. 15 in the most recent polls.
Bard drops to 8-6, 2-5 and hosts Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
The Brewers, who entered the match following winning the VC Invitational last weekend, won a hard-fought first set 31-29, but breezed to a 30-14 win in the second set. Bard mounted a comeback to take the third set 33-31, but the Brewers regrouped in the final set for a 30-20 victory.
Senior #Phil Tully,# who was named MVP of the Invitational for a second straight year, led the Brewers with 21 kills and was followed by 13 kills from junior
Evan Fredericksen. Freshman
Patrick Donohue had an outstanding evening with 10 kills and only one error on 17 attempts.

John Konow each had three block assists.
On the defensive side, La Du had 13 digs and Fredericksen chipped in with nine.
