TROY, NY (February 17, 2010) -- The Vassar College men's volleyball team snapped its three game losing streak with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-14, 30-18) victory over Sage College Wednesday night in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) match.
The Brewers, now 7-6 , 3-0 on the season, turn their attention to the annual Vassar Invitational on Friday and Saturday that will be held at Walker Field House starting at 4:00 p.m. The opening match features the No. 14 ranked Brewers against No. 6 nationally ranked Philadelphia Biblical University. Sage drops to 2-9 and travels to New York Polytechnic on Saturday.
Vassar led from start to finish in the match, getting nine kills from sophomore hitter
Lucas Rathjens who also added two block assists on the night. Sophomore
Clifford Quinn had 29 set assits, four block assists and four digs. Freshman
Christian La Du had 12 digs and classmate Charles Caldwell had six kills, seven digs and two block assits.
For the Brewers, Friday's match against Philadelphia Biblical will be an intriguing match between two teams that have some of the best hitters and setters in the country. Philadelphia Biblical features junior Justin Brubaker who leads the nation in kills with 5.42 per set, receiving those passes from junior Drew Dillion, who leads the nation in set assists with 13.40. Vassar will counter with the tandem of senior hitter
Phil Tully, who ranks seventh in the nation (4.46 kills per set) and freshman Johon Konow who is fifth in the nation with 12.29 set assists.
Vassar will play Johnson & Wales on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
