THROGGS NECK, NY (October 16, 2010) -- The Vassar College men's soccer team won their third match in four games with a 2-0 victory over Maritime Saturday afternoon.

The Brewers (8-5, 1-3 Liberty) face Skidmore this Saturday, October 23 at 3:00 p.m. and Union on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Tied for sixth in the Liberty League standings, the Brewers are four points behind RPI with three games to play, including a final game against RPI. The Privateers (9-7) host Purchase this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Despite extreme winds, Vassar controlled possession, scored two first half goals, and did not allow a single shot on goal to earn their seventh shutout of the season.

The Brewers struck first on a Ross Macklin corner kick in the 21st minute. Sophomore Zander Mrlik jockeyed for good position on his defender and then beat goalie to ball for the header goal, his second of the season.

In the 41st minute, freshman Juliano Pereira swung a ball out wide to junior Harrison Freund who tore down sideline at full speed. Freund cut a pass back to freshman Evan Seltzer, who made one touch in stride and cracked a shot into the lower left corner from just outside the box for his fourth goal of the season.

Macklin leads the Brewers with six assists and 14 points. Seltzer is tied with Macklin for the team lead with four goals.

In goal, freshman Alex Egan played the first half and earned his first career win. Sophomore Gary Clauss relieved Egan.
