Brewers Score Liberty League Victory At Bard

Six different Brewers finish win with a point

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Sophomore Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) scored two goals and senior Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) posted three points on Wednesday as the Vassar College Men's Soccer team scored a 3-1 road Liberty League at Bard.
 
Wednesday's victory improves Vassar to 3-4-2 overall on the season and 1-0-1 in conference competition, while Bard slips to 7-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • Martinez scored both his goals prior to halftime against the Raptors.
  • Martinez opened the scoring in the early going when he finished off a passing play from Torrey and Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) just over five minutes into the contest.
  • After Bard knotted the score at 1-1 in the 12th minute, Martinez potted the eventual game winning goal at 35:09 off of feeds from Arata Yamazaki (West Harrison, NY) and Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY).
  • Vassar finished the first half with a 9-5 advantage in shots and took the only six corner kicks prior to halftime.
  • Senior Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) finished the opening stanza with a pair of saves for the Brewers.
  • The Brewers scored the only goal of the second half, getting the insurance tally just over 10 minutes after halftime.
  • Torrey closed out the scoring in the game at 55:23 when he buried an assist from Jackson Allen (Chapel Hill, NC) to give Vassar the final two-goal advantage.
  • Vassar controlled play after the break, finishing the second half with a 13-4 advantage in shots.
  • Second half corner kicks went to the Brewers by a wide 8-2 margin.
For The Brewers
  • Martinez moved his team lead in goals to four on Wednesday with his first career multiple goal game. Martinez stands with four goals and nine points to date on the season.
  • Torrey potted his second goal of the season and added an assist to move into second on the team in points with five.
  • Hotz picked up his second assist of the season on the game winning goal.
  • Allen moved into a tie for the team lead in assists with his second helper of the year on the Brewers' final marker. 
  • Mejia also found his first point of the season with an assist on Vassar's opening goal.
  • Yamazaki recorded his first career point on the game winning tally.
  • Martinez and Allen led the team with three shots apiece.
  • Raphan earned the win in goal on Wednesday with a pair of stops.

  • Frankie Perera-Modica was the goal scorer for Bard, tallying for the first time this season.
  • Jake Sudit suffered the loss in goal with six saves for the Raptors.
