POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 7, 2009) – With the Vassar College women's lacrosse team eager to snap a four-game losing skid and Farmingdale State looking to extend a four-game winning streak, Tuesday saw a reversal of trends as the Brewers picked up a 13-8 win at Weinberg Field. An 11-5 first half lead proved too much for the Rams to overcome, although they outscored the Brewers 3-2 in the final frame.
The Brewers improve to 4-6, 0-4 in the Liberty League and will look to notch their first league wins as they host St. Lawrence University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Clarkson University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Rams fall to 5-3, 4-0 in the Skyline Conference and next take the field with a home conference game against Polytechnic on Saturday.
The Brewers got on board less than a minute into the game as sophomore attack
Moe Byrne laid a ball off to senior attack
Jessie Albert who fired home her ninth goal of the year. It looked as though it would be an easy day for Vassar, as the Brewers raced out to a quick 5-0 lead in just over six minutes, thanks to another tally from Albert, and one apiece from Byrne, senior midfielder
Christine Eaccarino, and junior midfielder
Larisa Lasko.
However, four unanswered goals, three from sophomore midfielder Justine Rothar and one from freshman attack Jessica Maddaloni pulled the Rams to within a goal, 5-4, with 11:07 to play in the half. The Brewers responded by outscoring Farmingdale 6-1 in the final ten minutes of the half to take an 11-5 lead into the final frame. Eaccarino played a large role in reestablishing her team's advantage during that time, with two goals and two assists.
That halftime lead proved crucial for Vassar. After their high-scoring first half, the Brewers struggled offensively in the second, as Farmingdale outscored Vassar, 3-2.
Eaccarino, Albert, and Byrne led the Brewers with three goals apiece, and Eaccarino led the team with three assists as well. Albert is in the midst of an impressive three-game span, in which she has tallied eight of her 11 season goals. Also scoring a goal apiece for Vassar were Lasko, junior midfielder
Jen Richards, sophomore midfielder
Sarah Warner, and freshman midfielder
Elizabeth Feltch.
For the Rams, Rothar powered the offense with five goals. Maddaloni, senior Theresa Rokee, and sophomore Jackie Messina added one goal apiece.

Heather Kesselman had a strong performance between the posts for Vassar, recording a career high 11 saves and doubling her previous season total, while allowing just three goals in nearly 36 minutes of play. Freshman goalie Courtney Cook made 10 saves for the Rams in the loss.
