MANSFIELD, CT (March 18, 2009) -- Playing the longest game in program history, the Vassar women's lacrosse team lost a triple overtime game to Eastern Connecticut, 11-10, Wednesday afternoon. In a contest that lasted 67:34, Eastern Connecticut's sophomore midfielder Taylor McDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional) tallied the game winning goal 1:34 remaining in the third overtime to land the Warriors the victory in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
The Brewers (2-2) will be back in action on Thursday, March 19 at 4:00 pm with the home opener against New England College at Weinberg Field. Eastern Connecticut (1-3) next faces Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the first of three spring trip games played in West Palm Beach, FL on Sunday.
The teams played to a 10-10 tie through 60 minutes of regulation. Neither team scored in the first (non-sudden-death) three-minute overtime period and neither team scored in the next three-minute overtime period which was sudden death. MacDonald scored her fourth goal of the contest with 1:34 gone in the third (sudden-death) overtime period.
The Brewers built a 9-5 lead with 6:20 left in the first period, but tallied only one goal the rest of the game. The Warriors scored the final two goals of the first half and the first two goals of the second half, both by MacDonald, to tie the game at 9-9. Neither team scored in the final 12 minutes of regulation.
With the score tied 3-3 the opening half, the Brewers outscored Eastern 6-2 to carry a 9-5 lead into the final six minutes of the first half. Senior attack

Sarah Warner (Ipswich, MA/The Waring School) each had two of those goals. Martellucci finished with three goals and an assist. Senior midfielder
Christine Eaccarino (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) had two goals and two assists for the Brewers.
Sophomore goalie Nicole Englehardt (Longhorn, PA/The George School) made 11 saves for Vassar. Kristianna Ibsen made 10 saves for Eastern.
