POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 7, 2009) – Without dropping even one game, the Vassar College women's squash team opened up the 2009-10 season with a convincing 9-0 win over Haverford College on Saturday at Kenyon Courts.
The Brewers improve to 1-0 in their only match before the Liberty League Championships. On November 21-22, Vassar will head to St. Lawrence University where the Brewers will look to defend their Liberty League title. The Fords fall to 0-1 and will next play Vanderbilt University and Georgetown University in the Navy Round Robin on Saturday, November 14.
Combining youth and experience in its lineup, the Brewers saw three seniors open their final collegiate seasons with a win, while on the other end of the spectrum, two freshmen earned their first collegiate victory.
“This was a great way to start the season and an important confidence booster, especially for the two freshman,” said head coach
Jane Parker.
Picking up their first collegiate wins were No. 4 Elisabeth Pei who downed Margo Schall 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-3) and No. 7
Alexa Lichtenstein who notched a 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-2) win over Katherine Pryor.
