Vassar College Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance Alice Read has announced the hiring of Devon Flynn as the new Assistant Director of Sports Performance in July 2026. Flynn will join the staff after spending one year with Utica University.

Flynn comes to Poughkeepsie following his time with the Pioneers where he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. He was responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning plans for 15 sport programs and also lead team training sessions focused on strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, mobility, and injury-risk reduction.

"I am thrilled to welcome Devon to the Brewers Sports Performance Team! Throughout the search process, it was clear that he embodies the qualities we strive to cultivate —an exceptional work ethic, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for developing student-athletes. His experience leading comprehensive strength and conditioning programs, combined with his enthusiasm and collaborative approach, make him an outstanding addition to the Brewer community", said Read.

During his time in Utica, Flynn also worked to develop in-season, off-season, and return-to-training plans based on sport demands, schedules, facility availability, and athlete needs. He also coached large groups of collegiate athletes while managing training flow, exercise technique, intensity, and safety along with communicating with sport coaches to coordinate training goals, schedules, testing, modifications, and athlete progress.

Flynn also has spent time as a strength and conditioning coach at SPI Fitness in Utica where he conducted assessments and develop individualized training programs for youth, high school, and collegiate athletes along with leading group and one-on-one training sessions while providing exercise progressions, regressions, and technical feedback.

Flynn was a four-year men's basketball student-athlete as he spent three seasons at Utica following two seasons at Hudson Valley Community College. He was a two-time team captain during his playing career and also served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative during his time at Utica.

Flynn earned his Associate of Science in Exercise Science from HVCC in 2022 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Wellness Studies in 2025.
