Henry Chuang enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Brewer women's volleyball team and an assistant for the men's squad, and provides years of experiences and wisdom. Chuang comes to Vassar College after five successful seasons as a men's assistant at Division-I St. Francis.
Before coming to Saint Francis, Chuang spent one year as an assistant at Rutgers-Newark, where he assisted with both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams.
Prior to coaching at Rutgers-Newark, Chuang spent four years as the head men’s volleyball coach, as well as the head junior’s coach, for TV Buehl, Germany. His men’s team there claimed a Division 3 championship, a Relegation title and qualified for the second national division.
Chuang’s U-18 junior squads were two-time Southern Germany champions, while his U-21 team earned a Southern Germany title to go along with a silver medal at the 2007 national championships.
While serving as men’s and women’s coach for SSC Vellmar in Germany from 2001-03, Chuang helped the women’s team to a Division 3 Championship, earning them a spot in the second national division. He also served as an assistant coach at the Youth/Junior National Team Training Center.
Chuang entered the college coaching ranks after graduating from Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, Calif., in 1994. He worked at several high schools and on junior club teams in northern and southern California. He played one season for the University of California - Santa Cruz before transferring to Loyola-Marymount, where he received his bachelor of arts in psychology.
Chuang holds a master’s degree in education from Saint Francis. He is fluent in German.
