2013-14:
XC: First runner ever to be named team MVP and Rookie of the Year, following one of the most successful seasons in school history by any runner...finished first for the Brewers in all but his first 8k, and finished in the top ten overall in every race except the Regional Championship, where he nevertheless earned All-Region honors...in a sterling collegiate debut at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational, Mazzuca finished first for the Brewers and second overall in a blazing-fast time of 19:42, seven seconds faster than the previous course record... produced an encore performance at the Ramapo Invitational, where he finished ninth overall and second for Vassar in his first 8k...finished second overall at the Saratoga Invitational, running 26:00 in just his second 8k...continued his tremendous improvement with an outstanding performance at the Geneseo Pre-Regional, finishing fifth overall out of 255 with a new personal best of 25:42...matched that time in his next race, en route to a tenth place overall finish out of 244 competitors, including the eventual NCAA national champion Michael LeDuc, at the Conn College Invitational...furthered lowered his personal best to 25:29 at the Liberty League Championship, where he finished sixth overall and earned First Team All-League honors...despite an "off" day at the Regional Championships--the first race that did not result in a new personal best--he managed to place 35th overall out of 275, earning All-Region accolades.

Track: Made his collegiate track debut in the 5000m at the Willie Williams Classic, running 16:12.27...ran 4:12.57 for 1500m at the Monmouth Season Opener, earning Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors...lowered his 1500m personal best to 4:11.11 at the Ramapo Invite.

PRIOR TO VASSAR: Four year star for the Huguenots of New Paltz High School...was a two-year captain for the cross country team...captained the track squad as a senior...also competed for four season on the skiing squad...was a two-time section individual champion in cross country...4x800m state champion in track ... 1600m steeplechase League and Section champion, while also earning individual titles in the 800m and 4x800m...Tri-Valley Invitational Outstanding Athlete...voted Varsity "845" Athlete of the Year...class vice president at NPHS...National Honor Society...part of Peer Leadership...peer mediator.

PERSONAL: Son of Steven and Ornella Mazzuca...has one brother, Lorenzo...pre-med major...chose Vassar College over SUNY-Geneseo, SUNY-New Paltz, RPI, Iona College, SUNY-Binghamton and University of Rochester.
