XC: Completed eight races in his second XC season for the Brewers...served as a large impact runner, especially as the team entered Championship season...placed 6th for Vassar at the New Paltz 3200m Season Opener with a time of 10:30...ran 6th place for the squad again at the Purple Valley Classic to neat 150 runners in the process...stepped it up at Conn College to run his person best time of 26:48 and was the 4th Vassar runner to cross the line...saved his biggest race of his career as the last one of the season as he ran 2nd for the team to tear it up at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships with a time of 27:12.
Track: Finished with Vassar's second best 5000m time at the Monmouth Season Opener with a personal best 16:07.99...shattered his previous 800m best with a 2:07.79 and finished well within the top half of the competition in both the 800m and the 1500m at the Ramapo College Invitational...scored for Vassar at the Liberty League Championships with a seventh place finish in the 10,000m...closed the season with first place in the 10,000m and a personal best of 33:07.93 at the Matthew Vassar Twilight Invitaional.
2014-15:
XC: Placed sixth for the Brewers at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational...ran a personal best 6k time of 20:38 at the Saratoga Invitational...ran 27:48 for 8k at the James Earley Invitational...ran a personal best time of 27:35 at the Liberty League Championships, placing fourth for Vassar.
Track: Schatz was a solid distance runner during his freshman campaign, competing in eight meets during the spring season...ran a variety of distances, ranging from the 800 to 5000 meters...helped Vassar's 4x800 meter relay team finish second at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational with a 8:15.98...placed 17th overall in the 5k at the Matthew Vassar Twilight Meet with a personal-best time of 16:10.94...placed 12th at the Monmouth Season Opener in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:19.48.
PRIOR TO VASSAR: Starred for the Blazers of Lancaster Mennonite High School...was a three-year letter winner in cross country and track...two-year captain for head coach Mark Gallagher and Tim Su on the cross country team...also a captain as a senior for Ange Horst in track...was a two-time state qualifier in Class AA in XC...finished 17th and medaled at the District 3 Championships (Class AA)...finished 8th at the District 3 Championships in the 3,200 meters in track and field...was a Student Council president as well at LMHS.
PERSONAL: Parents are Michael and Angela Schatz...has one brother, Jared (21)...planning on majoring in biochemistry.
