2022: The senior libero was the backbone for the serve receive core this season. He played in 18 matches appearing in 57 sets. Usui led the team in digs with a total of 116, averaging 2.04 digs per set which was good for number one on the team. His best game came against MSOE (3/1) where he had a total of 18 digs in a three-set win for an astounding six digs per set. In addition to his defensive status, he had the highest reception percentage with a 98.2

2021: The junior libero played a crucial defensive role for the team, coming up with 132 digs to lead the team...  recorded a season high 17 digs at Nazareth... A constant presence on the court, he played 52 sets, tying for most on the team... receiving percentage was 97.1 while attempting the most returns of any teammate... He contributed offensively with 35 total assists, third on the team. 

2020: Usui continued to dominate the court on the defensive end. Played in 79 sets for the Brewers – tied for second among the whole squad … Finished the shortened season with 179 total digs and averaged 2.27 a set – which was the most among the Brewers … Set up 49 assists on the season … even was able to find six kills on the season – four of which were picked up during Vassar’s UVC matchup against Bard College, where he hit .429 … posted a career-high 18 digs in a five-set reverse sweep of Hunter College … recorded 13 digs and three assists in a four-set victory against Arcadia … Led the team with 15 digs and five assists in a five-set loss to MIT … In the Brewer’s final matchup of the season he again led the team with 15 digs as well as five assists.

2019: Stepped into a solid reserve role for the Brewers in his rookie campaign, showing off his versatility in the libero position … Played in 22 matches with 80 sets played over that span … Led the team with 201 digs in 2019, including a squad-best 2.51 digs per set average - which ranked third overall amongst UVC players and was 41st among Division III’s best … Added 51 assists … Had at least four digs in all 22 matches played, including nine with 10 or more …  Recorded his first collegiate kill with five assists and five digs in a three-set win against Rutgers-Newark on January 26 … Posted 15 digs and two assists in a four-set win over Johnson & Wales on February 9 … Recorded five assists and a season-best 17 digs as the Brewers bested Elms in five-sets on March 2 … Had a kill and 10 digs in a five-set triumph over Nazareth on March 9.

BEFORE VASSAR: Helped Palos Verdes High School win the first Bay League Championship in school history…Earned first team all-league and first team all-area honors as a senior…Named first team all-league and second team all-area as a junior…Served as team captain and selected as team MVP in 2018…A three-time team Defensive Player of the Year…Had a personal-best 22 digs against rival Peninsula.

PERSONAL: Son of Mark and Vivien…Has three siblings, Jeff, Ryan and Brent…Majoring in economics…Chose Vassar for the opportunity to play college volleyball while also receiving a great education.
