Men’s Soccer Clipped On The Road At Franklin And Marshall

Hevener nets first career goal

Lancaster, PA – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon, dropping a tight 2-1 decision at Franklin and Marshall. Sophomore Tristan Hevener (Ardmore, PA) tallied for the Brewers, scoring his first career goal.
 
Vassar falls to 1-1-1 overall on the season through three tilts, while the Diplomats even their record at 1-1.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar surrendered the first goal of the game for the second straight outing on Sunday.
  • Franklin and Marshall's Nico Palacios opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he finished off an assist from Wes Wise at the 15:06 mark of the contest.
  • The Diplomats maintained the advantage until the 42nd minute when Hevener brought the Brewers even with his first career goal
  • Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) headed a ball that found Hevener inside the box at 41:44 to send the two teams to the intermission knotted at 1-1.
  • Vassar finished the opening period with a 9-5 advantage in shots with corner kicks prior to the break even at 4-4.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) made one save in the first half.
  • Franklin and Marshall's Diego Moreno closed the opening stanza with a trio of stops.
  • The two teams would remain deadlocked at a goal apiece well into the second frame, until the Diplomats found the eventual game winner with just over 11 minutes left to play.
  • Ben Garland found the back of the net off a cross from Ellis Boyle at 78:39 that closed out the scoring in the game.
  • Vassar would force Moreno to make two saves in the final five minutes, including on a header from Isaac Taegar (Metuchen, NJ) with 37 seconds left to play.
  • Vassar held a slim 6-5 advantage in second half shots, while corner kicks were even at 1-1.
  • Raphan made one more save after halftime, with Moreno turning aside three shots for the Diplomats.
 
For The Brewers
  • Hevener became the fourth different Brewer to score a goal through three games with his first career tally.
  • Martinez pushed his team lead in points to five with his first assist of the campaign.
  • Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) led the Brewers with five shots, putting two on target.

  • Garland scored the game winning goal with his first tally of the season.

  • Boyle, Palacios and Sutton Hoehl all led the Diplomats with two shots in the game.
  • Moreno earned the win in goal on Sunday with six saves.
