Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team returned home Saturday afternoon and was dealt a 3-0 non-conference loss by #11 Cortland.
Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) led the team with three shots and fellow senior
Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) made one save in goal.
Saturday's loss, Vassar's second straight, drops it to 1-2-1 overall on the season while the Red Dragons improve to a perfect 4-0.
How It Happened
- Neither team would generate a shot early in the contest until a Clement Grossman (Cold Spring, NY) shot missed just outside the left post in the 10th minute.
- Cortland did not register its first shot until the 23rd minute when Gaetano Corrao misfired at the 22:39 mark.
- The two teams played scoreless until the late stages of the first half when Cortland broke through with the eventual goal in the 34th minute.
- Sam LaMendola picked up a rebound inside the box and tallied at the 33:34 mark to send the Red Dragons into the break with a 1-0 lead.
- The visitors outshot Vassar 7-2 over the opening 45 minutes.
- Corner kicks in the first half were even at three per side.
- Cortland maintained the one-goal advantage until the final 10 minutes before it struck twice just over four minutes apart.
- Iago Lopez doubled the Red Dragons' lead in the 84th minute before Owen Brant closed out the scoring in the 88th minute.
- Cortland held the advantage in second half shots 10-4.
