Trio of Brewers score, Sheehan records two assists

Scranton, PA – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team won its second straight game to open the 2026 season with a 3-0 shutout on the road at Scranton. Anna Arban (Temecula, CA), Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) and Maddie Harmon (Torrance, CA) accounted for the goals with Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) recording two assists.
 
Vassar improves to 2-0 on the season with the win and to 4-0-1 in its last five contests with the Royals. Scranton slips to 1-1 through the first two games of the season with the loss.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar controlled play from the outset, recording three shots in the first three minutes of play on Saturday.
  • Vassar found the eventual deciding tally in the seventh minute when Arban finished off a pass from Elena Valle (Rocky Point, CT) at the 6:37 mark for an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Brewers would strike again in the late stages of the first half with Crowley burying Sheehan's first assist of the game with just over five minutes left before halftime.
  • Vassar finished the opening 45 minutes with an 11-3 advantage in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) made one save prior to the break for the Brewers with Scranton keeper, Makenzie Van Arsdale, making four first half saves for the Royals.
  • Vassar maintained the two-goal advantage until the final 10 minutes when it closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute.
  • Sheehan connected with Harmon on Vassar's third goal of the game at 82:21 to finish off the Brewers' second straight road win to start the season.
  • Vassar held an 8-5 advantage in second half shots and took four of the five corner kicks awarded after halftime.
  • Shea closed out the shutout with four second half saves for Vassar.
 
For The Brewers
  • Crowley moved into the team lead in goals with her second in as many games.
  • Arban scored for the first time in 2026 and for the second time in her career with Saturday's game winning tally.
  • Harmon notched her first career goal on Saturday and became the seventh different Brewer to find the scoring column over the first two games of the season.
  • Sheehan collected her first two helpers and points of the season with assists on Vassar's second and third goals.
  • Valle added her second helper of the season on the Arban tally and is tied with Sheehan for the team lead in assists and Crowley for the team standard in points through two games.
  • Shea finished the victory with a season-high five saves and earned her 14th career shutout in the victory.
 
For The Royals
  • Van Arsdale suffered the loss in goal for Scranton, making eight saves on the afternoon.
  • Jenna Borelli led the team with two shots in the game.
